Mitt Romney?s campaign announced Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) as his vice presidential running mate early Saturday.
?Mitt’s choice for VP is Paul Ryan. Spread the word for America’s comeback,? said a message from the campaign?s VP selection app. at 7:04 a.m. EST.
A GOP source told The Hill and several media outlets confirmed late Friday that Ryan would be named to the GOP ticket. Romney will formally introduce Ryan in Norfolk, Va. at an event at the USS Wisconsin at 9 a.m.
Ryan?s selection will help solidify Romney’s credentials with conservatives who have held some suspicions of the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, labeled a flip-flopper by opponents.
The fiscally conservative House Budget Committee chairman has long been a favorite of the right. And in the past week, the chorus had grown louder in favor of Ryan. On Thursday, a Wall Street Journal editorial advocated for Ryan and the Weekly Standard also has pushed for him.
The Hill is correct in that Paul Ryan has the conservative credentials for the race. The only downside is that we can already count on the Democrats making this race about “Medi-scare,” whereas all the opposition will talk about is Ryan’s proposal to give seniors a choice between Medicare and private insurance.
But then again, anyone talking about taking power away from government must be scary to Democrats.
